FAQ

What is a ScriptCloud?

A ScriptCloud is a content cloud created from a screenplay. It is just one way of visualizing the content of your screenplay. It displays the top 64 terms from your script in a tag cloud format, after excluding a list of common terms. The most popular terms are shown in a larger font.

Not familiar with content clouds? Check out the Wikipedia entry on tag clouds. A ScriptCloud is not a tag cloud, because it does not depend on tags added to your script, only the script content itself.

A ScriptCloud is also a form of concordance. In this case one that visualizes the most frequently used keywords in your screenplay.

Who is ScriptCloud.com for?

ScriptCloud is primarily intended for screenwriters or anyone interested in visualizing TV/Film scripts and screenplays. But you could upload a short story, poetry or even a novel if you wish to.

The idea is that you can create a content library of your scripts that can be visualized via various forms of ScriptCloud.

Does it cost anything?

No. ScriptCloud is free to registered users.

Why Bother with a ScriptCloud?

Because it’s fun.

Because it might help you to spot opportunities for improvement or problems to solve in your script that you might not otherwise see.

Because it’s fun.

How does it work?

It takes just three simple steps to create your first ScriptCloud.

  1. Register as a user and login to the site
  2. Upload a screenplay (or other content)
  3. View your ScriptCloud

See Getting Started link on home page for the recommended first-time use workflow.

What screenplay format is required?

The screenplay (or poem/novel) file you upload must be in plain text format - usually this is a .txt file.

This kind of file can be produced from all the mainstream screenwriting programs using the File-Export or File–Save As options. Other formats such as Adobe PDF or proprietary formats such as Final Draft’s .fdr are not supported.

How many scripts can I upload?

As many as you like.

You can add or delete scripts through the user portal. Each time you upload a new script, a new “default” ScriptCloud is created for viewing.

So you can upload lots of different scripts or lots of versions/drafts of the same script. Whatever. Just give them different titles so you can find and manage them easily.

Isn't this just a way of harvesting scripts?

No. Scriptcloud is not interested in your script for any other reason than to create a content cloud from it. We are interested in analyzing script content not marketing. You own the copyright to your script.

Can everyone see my scripts and clouds?

No. Only you. Your scripts and clouds are linked to your login id so that they are kept private.

Can I create or edit my script content in ScriptCloud?

No. ScriptCloud is used for script visualization not scriptwriting. So you can use whatever scriptwriting program you want to create and manage the script content.

What’s a Movie ScriptCloud?

A movie ScriptCloud is a content cloud generated from a screenplay used as the basis for a well-known (i.e. released) feature-film movie. We provide these both for fun and as a reference point that you might use to compare to your script.
